ITINERARY

Cusco – Km 104 – Machu Picchu

The tour begins early, with a 3:30 a.m. pick-up from your hotel in Cusco, followed by a bus transfer to the train station in Ollantaytambo. After a scenic 90-minute train ride through the Sacred Valley, you’ll reach KM. 104 (Chachabamba), where the trek along the ancient Inca trail begins. The hike offers breathtaking views of the region’s diverse flora and fauna, as well as stops at notable archaeological sites such as Chachabamba and Choquesuysuy.

As you ascend through the lush landscape, you will encounter the stunning Wiñaywayna archaeological complex, located at 2,650 meters above sea level. This site, featuring ceremonial and agricultural structures, marks an important point on the journey to Machu Picchu. Continuing the trek, you will pass through Intipunku, or the Sun Gate, offering your first panoramic view of the Machu Picchu citadel, a moment of joy and accomplishment after the sacred hike.

After reaching Machu Picchu, you’ll descend to Aguas Calientes by bus, where you will spend the night. In this charming town, you can relax, explore local restaurants, or visit the thermal baths, preparing for the next day’s tour of the Machu Picchu sanctuary.

Machu Picchu – Cusco

In the early morning, we will head to the bus station for a 25-minute journey to the Machu Picchu Archaeological Sanctuary. Upon arrival, you’ll witness the breathtaking sunrise over the ancient city. Our guided tour will explore Machu Picchu, one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, where the grandeur of this Inca masterpiece will reveal its mysteries and historical significance.

During the tour, our guide will explain the intricate architecture and engineering of the citadel. You’ll marvel at the agricultural terraces, aqueducts, temples, and other structures that showcase the incredible harmony between the Inca city and its natural surroundings. Machu Picchu’s design is a testament to the Cusqueños’ ingenuity, blending nature with sophisticated construction techniques.

After the visit, we will return by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch and some relaxation. In the afternoon, we will board the train back to Ollantaytambo, where a transfer will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Cusco, concluding this memorable journey.

  • Bring your passport or ID.
  • Arrive half an hour early at the train station.
  • In the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu, you will climb many stairs, wear suitable non-slip shoes.
  • Carry in a small backpack, a camera, a sun-protective hat, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and a water bottle.
  • Take precautions and care when climbing, as there are many stairs to climb. The walk becomes safe if you follow the recommendations and the guide’s instructions.
  • Visit and enjoy the thermal baths in Aguas Calientes.
  • Regarding your luggage, you can carry up to 7 kilos on the train.
  • In high season, the number of visitors to Machu Picchu increases, so in some cases, you may have to queue to board the bus to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary.
