 Inca Trail – Wayllabamba

(Snacks, Lunch, Tea Time, and Dinner)

IMPORTANT: It is mandatory to meet with our official guide the day before, who will accompany and guide you throughout the 4 days. Precise information about the hike, distances, what to bring, and how to prepare will be provided.

We will start our Inca Trail adventure to Machu Picchu at 5:30 a.m., picking you up from your hotel and taking you by train to Piskakucho (Km 82), passing through the towns of Chinchero, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, we will pass through the checkpoints. Along the way, we will observe several archaeological sites, culminating at the Patallacta viewpoint, a city of great importance during the Inca period.

We will continue hiking until we reach Miskay, where we will have lunch and take a short break. Our adventure continues until we reach our first campsite, Wayllabamba. We will enjoy afternoon tea before dinner.

After breakfast, we will continue our journey to Pacaymayo. The most challenging part will be the first 3 hours of climbing to reach the “Warmiwañuska” (Dead Woman) pass. At this point, we will feel like we have reached the highest point of the Inca Trail and can admire the beauty of the landscape. After a rest, we will continue hiking down to Pacaymayo, where we will have lunch and find everything set up for our tents. We will enjoy afternoon tea before a delicious dinner.

Pacaymayo – Puyupatamarca – WiñAyhuayna

(Breakfast, Lunch, Tea Time, and Dinner)

After breakfast, we will continue our hike and prepare to ascend to the second pass known as “Abra de Runkurakay” (3970 meters above sea level), where we will visit the archaeological site. After a 1 hour and 40-minute trek, we will arrive at Sayacmarca, an important archaeological site due to its structure, and continue to Chakicocha where we will have lunch. After a delicious lunch, we will continue our journey, marveling at the varied geography of the area. The lush vegetation will give way to a dry, mountainous landscape.

We will walk through tunnels carved into solid rock, heading towards “Puyupatamarca,” a city known for being shrouded in mist and mystery.

Our journey continues to Wiñayhuayna, where we descend to an altitude of 2700 meters above sea level. Wiñayhuayna impresses us with its stunning Inca terraces, known as “andenes,” along with its sacred and urban areas, revealing the greatness of this ancient civilization. We will enjoy afternoon tea before a relaxing dinner.

Finally, the big day has arrived. At 4:00 a.m., after breakfast (or you may opt to bring a box lunch for the hike), we begin our walk towards Machu Picchu. We will have a brief hike to reach Inti Punku, meaning ‘Sun Gate’ in Quechua, which is believed to have been a control point and ceremonial gateway to Machu Picchu for those arriving from other parts of the Inca Empire.

After this fantastic spot, we begin our descent to the Inca citadel. In Machu Picchu, our guide will be available to take you on a fascinating tour of the entire citadel. We will provide detailed information, revealing the secrets and wonders of this unique archaeological site.

You will then have the opportunity to explore Machu Picchu at your own pace during free time, taking all the photos you wish to capture this moment of your visit. After your visit to the citadel, you will be accompanied back by train to Ollantaytambo station.

Upon arrival, our team will be waiting to ensure that your return journey to Cusco is as comfortable as possible. From the station, we will accompany you back to your hotel in Cusco, ensuring that your experience ends as perfectly as it began.
