Machu Picchu Bike Tour

The Machu Picchu Bicycle Tour is a multi-day adventure starting in Cusco with a bike ride from Yanamayo Pass to Ocobamba, followed by a transfer to Quillabamba for an overnight stay. The next day, the descent continues from Abra Santa Rosa to Santa Teresa, where visitors can enjoy the Cocalmayo hot springs. On the third day, there’s a hike from the hydroelectric plant to Aguas Calientes, with a stop at the Mandor Waterfalls. The tour concludes with a guided visit to Machu Picchu, before returning by train to Ollantaytambo and then back to Cusco.

ITINERARY

Cusco — Biking Yanamayo — Ocobamba — Quillabamba

The tour begins with a 5:00 AM pickup from your hotel, followed by a drive through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo, where you’ll enjoy a 45-minute breakfast. The journey continues to the Yanamayo Pass, passing through traditional communities like Patacancha and Willoq. At 10:00 AM, after a safety briefing and putting on protective gear, you’ll start a 30 km descent from the Andes to the jungle, passing waterfalls and coffee plantations. Lunch is served in Ocobamba at 2:00 PM, and then you’ll travel by car to Quillabamba for dinner and an overnight stay.

Quillabamba — Biking Abra Santa Rosa – Santa Teresa — Thermal Baths Of Cocalmayo

On day 2, the tour begins at 8:30 AM with a 45-minute drive to the top of the Santa Rosa Pass near Quillabamba. After gearing up and checking the bikes, we will descend through fruit crops such as bananas, cocoa, papaya, mangoes, and coffee, covering 15 kilometers. Along the way, there will be stops to taste local fruits depending on the season. The ride continues through warm temperatures, arriving in Santa Teresa by 2:00 PM for lunch. After dinner at 6:00 PM, we will visit the Cocalmayo hot springs to relax in the warm waters.

Aguas Calientes — Hydroelectric Hike

At 8:30 AM, after breakfast, we will drive for 45 minutes to the hydroelectric plant, where our hike to Aguas Calientes begins. The trail is flat, making it an easy walk along the railway line, surrounded by jungle and the Vilcanota River. The hike takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes, and with luck, we may spot wildlife like the Cock of the Rock. We will pass by the Mandor Waterfalls, where we can stop to take pictures and videos. Afterward, we will continue to Aguas Calientes, arriving in time for lunch, with the afternoon free to explore or relax.

Visit Machu Picchu

On the final day, we will visit Machu Picchu. The guide will pick you up at 6:00 AM from your hotel, and we’ll head to the Aguas Calientes bus station for a 45-minute ride to Machu Picchu. Once inside, the guide will lead a 2-hour tour of the citadel, explaining the history and culture of the Incas, with opportunities to take photos at various spots. After the tour, we will return to Aguas Calientes for lunch at 1:00 PM, then take the 2:45 PM train back to Ollantaytambo, where transportation will take us to Cusco, marking the end of our journey.
